Mostly what I’m thinking is in the form of questions:
When Garak stands so close to Ezri, does she notice his scent? If she does, is it different now than that it was on the station? His environment, his food has changed — does he seem somehow more himself, more like the person in his epic letter?
Standing there in the darkness together, might one of them reach out for the other in even a small way? “You have a moth on your shoulder” — this is true, but the gesture of brushing it away might be a request for permission to touch. They’re talking of sharing a bed but I can’t feel the attraction just yet.
Did any of Dax’s previous hosts have any adventures in bed with a Cardassian, and can Dax remember it? As Ezri, before she was also Dax, perhaps she wouldn’t have been so ... unconventional. But Dax has lived a very long time and has enjoyed many things, and as precious as those memories are, they can’t take the place of direct experience. Or direct affection.
What exactly is she missing when she misses Julian so much? His rambling at night, perhaps, in that voice that makes everything seem all right whether it is or not? His height beside her own lack of it? His utter inability to hide his pleasure at seeing either her ... or Garak?
Ramble at me. Ramble about all of this, from Julian’s POV as well, and Garak’s, and then find places in the story to put some of those ramblings.
Julian’s probably been feeling unmoored, and perhaps more than a little guilty over a couple things, one of which being that he’s in love with two people at once and therefore feels he might be betraying them both. He’s with Ezri; surely he shouldn’t also have those images, those thoughts, about his Cardassian ... friend. Suitor. Whatever this is. How much has Ezri let on to him about her attraction to Garak? How much has he figured out?
How much farther did he fall, reading that novel Garak sent him, getting to know a lonely misfit kid whose best friend was a chameleon?
Has he been eating lunch at Quark’s instead of at the replimat, wanting the color, the noise of the gamblers to keep his mind off pretty much everything; jumping damn near out of his skin when he saw a Cardassian wander up to the bar, only to realize a moment later that, alas, it wasn’t his Cardassian?
— and then realizing he thinks of Garak as his Cardassian, and that this might be a problem.
I’m looking for this stuff, for the emotions going on under it all. And on that note, I’m on my way to a meeting at Creators Space, so I gotta run!
